Community Education

Thanks to having a pastor who is also an accomplished, Princeton-educated writer and public speaker, we have everything you need to take your English skills to the next level. From classes in Public Speaking and Academic or Business writing, to classes general English, or whatever other help you might need, we've got you covered. And because we're a church, and therefore not-for-profit, all our classes are offered at-cost, as a service to the community.

The link to the RSVP form is at the bottom of the page, but feel free to show up whether you RSVP or not. Everyone is ALWAYS welcome!

Basic English Training

Mon. and Wed., 11:00 - 12:30

These classes are simple, low-pressure, introductory English classes designed for police officers and other working professionals to acquire basic operational English skills. These classes cover speaking, vocabulary, and basic grammar training, and has an asynchronous syllabus,  which allows participants to attend any class, or miss any class, without missing any key content.

This class is offered twice a week, to allow for police officers (and others with irregular schedules) the opportunity to attend either class as they are able. 

English Creative Writing

Tuesdays, 18:00-19:00

This is an all-ages class focusing on how to use English for creative self-expression. We will cover a wide variety of creative writing styles, including novels and short stories, plays, poetry, music, and more. As with most of our classes, our Creative Writing class has an asynchronous syllabus,  which allows participants to attend any class, or miss any class, without missing any key content. This class is offered once a week, on Tuesday evenings. 

Academic and Business Writing

Wednesday, 18:00 - 19:00

This is a class for anyone who needs help writing papers for school, work, or business. The focus of this class is on concrete and direct communication of information, source citation, and integrity in writing. We'll learn about the kinds of forms and formats English-speaking businesses typically use, how to write academic papers, resume writing for English companies, and much more. As with most of our classes, our Academic and Business Writing class has an asynchronous syllabus,  which allows participants to attend any class, or miss any class, without missing any key content. This class is offered once a week, on Wednesday evenings. 

Public Speaking in English Wednesday, 19:00 - 20:00

This class covers covers a variety of things, including “thinking in English,” quick response (via debate, discussion, etc), as well as the essentials of persuasive public speech (timing, volume, pausing, nonverbal language aspects, word choice, and more). If you want to take your English skills to the next level, even if you are a native speaker already, this class can help you do it! As with most of our classes, our Public Speaking course has an asynchronous syllabus,  which allows participants to attend any class, or miss any class, without missing any key content. This class is offered once a week, on Wednesday evenings. 

Community Coffee and Conversations

Thursdays, 9:00 - 11:00

                     THIS IS A FREE EVENT!
Every Thursday morning, Pastor Don opens up the church to the community, and everyone is invited to stop by for a free cup of coffee and some time to practice talking to each other in English. 

NOTE: The grounds of the church are currently under construction, but we're still having coffee and conversations anyways. Just come on in, grab a cup, and have fun! 

Homework Help in English

Fridays, 17:30 - 19:00

Aimed largely at elementary, middle school, and high school students, this is an opportunity for you to come to the church and get help with your homework in English! You can bring your English homework and get some native-level help with it, or just bring your usual homework and practice English while working on it. Everyone is welcome. Not only that, but it's totally free, which is a lot cheaper than a juku!

NOTE: The grounds of the church are currently under construction, but we're still having coffee and conversations anyways. Just come on in, grab a cup, and have fun!
